סמ"ל חביב טיאב הגיע יחד עם סגן מפקד אוגדה 80, מפקד לוט״ר אילת ושלושה לוחמים נוספים לקיבוץ סופה ביום שבת בבוקר בזמן שהתקיים קרב עם מחבלים במוצב סופה. חביב, הסמאו״ג ושלושת לוחמי לוט״ר אילת, היו היחידים בקיבוץ סופה ובמשך מספר שעות הדפו ונלחמו עם מחבלים בקיבוץ, כאשר יש בידיהם נשק קל בלבד.
חביב והכוח נלחמו מול עשרות מחבלים והצליחו להדוף אותם עד להגעת תגבור נוסף של לוחמי לוט״ר אילת.
